Welcome to the Stop Motion Barcelona Short Film Festival!
A festival created by La Academia de Animación, and dedicated exclusively to the world of stop motion animation, which will be held in the beautiful city of Barcelona.

II STOP MOTION BARCELONA – Short Film festival – 2017 from STOP MOTION BARCELONA on Vimeo.

The festival was created last year by Lula Gómez, Jordi Piulachs and Guillem Puig as a private initiative to support the stop-motion animation industry, and to popularize and make this wonderful technique known worldwide. The results were spectacular: the tickets sold out in just a few hours. Because of this, they’re not only coming back this year: they’re extending their proposal in both days and activities.

During three days, aside from the oficial short film selection, the festival will screen student shorts, a new czech author selection commissioned by the Madrid Czech Center, and a retrospective focused on the winners of the last eight editions of the Stop Motion Montreal festival, which is part of the event as collaborator and guest festival.

Also, there’ll be workshops for kids and adults, and conferences with international stop-motion animators like  Jamie Caliri, the Californian director and animator who created the  Dragonframe  software (used by studios such as Laika in their productions) and who directed the stop-motion sequences in the film The Little Prince (2015). We will also welcome María Moreira and Raúl Eguía, animators in  Aardman Animations, who have been a part of films like Shaun the Sheep Movie (2015) or Early Man, whose premiere is slated for 2018.

Another highlight is the incredible international jury of the festival, formed by four women of the animation world: Kirsten Lepore, Niki Lindroth Von Bahr, María Moreira and Carolina López Caballero.

Indubitably, a festival focused on not only industry professionals, but also enjoyable by both kids and parents.

The Stop Motion Barcelona Short Film Festival will take place from June 29th to July 1st at the Centro Cívico Can Felipa in Poble Nou. Tickets can already be purchased in advance through the Internet or in the ticket windows on the same day of the festival.

The official festival presentation will take place next Tuesday, June 6th, at 18:00h in the Glups! Hall at Norma Cómics.
